One of the most outlandishly fun events in the Northwoods is Minocqua’s Annual Beef-A-Rama. In its 47th year, this celebration of beef always brings thousands of visitors to the area. Whether you are there for the Rump Roast Run, the storefront cook-off of over 70 beef roasts, or the famous “Parade of Roasts,” Beef-A-Rama is an experience you’ll never forget.
Each year, Beef-A-Rama is held at the end of September—this year’s celebration takes place on Saturday, September 24. As the leaves begin to turn from green to red, yellow, orange, downtown Minocqua turns into one giant kitchen. Teams dressed in themed costumes line the streets with their cooking stations, hoping to win the storefront cook-off.
Who will prepare the most flavorful beef roast? Only the celebrity judges can decide after they carefully evaluate each beef roast for taste, presentation and appearance. Visitors can also stroll around downtown and take in the sights of different beef roast team costumes, the smell of roast beef cooking, and the taste of complimentary snacks.
At exactly 2:45 p.m. every year the famous “Parade of Roasts” begins. Each team proudly accompanies their beef roast down the street as they make their way to Torpy Park on the edge of downtown Minocqua. At 3:00 p.m., the roasts are sliced, “bunned” and served by an assembly line of volunteers. Beef-A-Rama attendees help celebrate the winning roasts by eating one or many of the thousands of beef sandwiches prepared.
Other events during Beef-A-Rama include the Rump Roast Run, arts and crafts fair, an old-fashion downtown street dance, a beef eating contest, live music, additional refreshments, and more.
