Town-wide Property Revaluation in 2012

NOTICE OF TOWN-WIDE PROPERTY REVALUATION IN 2012

The Town of Minocqua is in the midst of gathering data for a town-wide property revaluation taking place in the year 2012.

A “revaluation” is the process of gathering property information, reviewing data, and revaluing all property in a municipality. This is done for the purpose of creating equitable assessments at current market values. The basic objective of a revaluation is to achieve equity in assessments so that each property bears only its fair share of the property tax burden.

This process also enables the Town of Minocqua to maintain compliance with valuation guidelines mandated by the State of Wisconsin. The last time the Town of Minocqua underwent this extensive process was in the year 2002.

Over the next year, property appraisers with Bowmar Appraisal, Inc., will finish visiting properties within the town to update property records. If unable to gain entry, the appraiser will check the exterior of the building(s), record pertinent information on a record card, and take photographs of the building(s).

We kindly ask all property owners for their cooperation in this process so it may be completed in a timely manner. All appraisers will carry and display proper Town of Minocqua issued identification.

The project is expected to be completed by September of 2012, with notices of new assessments to be sent in early October, and Open Book Hearings and Board of Review meetings to be held in late October to early November.

The Town of Minocqua thanks you in advance for your cooperation in this process. If you should have any questions, please contact the Minocqua Town Offices at 715-356-5296.
