The time is finally here for WisDOT’s downtown Minocqua concrete repair project. Most of the road work should be complete by Memorial Day weekend. Yes, there will be some inconveniences, but it will result in a smoother surface that will help preserve the existing pavement and will look better for locals and visitors alike.
Here’s what’s being done:
Concrete repairs to the northbound and southbound traffic lanes, parking lanes, and curb & gutter. Also, multiple damaged curb ramps will be repaired and brought up to the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Signs and new pavement marking will be installed as well.
Southbouund: Appx. W. Front Street to the north end of the Lake Minocqua bridge. Northbound: Lake Minocqua bridge to E. Front Street (the concrete pavement of the downtown loop).
Monday, May 6 (Weather Permitting)
Anticipated Construction Completion:
Thursday, June 13
Monday through Saturday. Expect work to occur from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting. There will be no work over Memorial Day Weekend.
One lane of US 51 northbound and one lane of US 51 southbound will be open at all times. That means the other lane and adjacent parking lane will be closed while repairs are made. Once the first half is completed, traffic and parking will be moved to the completed side to allow for work on the other traffic and parking lane. Off-street parking in the downtown area will not by impacted by this project.
Sidewalk work will be limited to select curb ramps, however work will occur on the adjacent pavement and curb & gutter locations. We will take measures to separate pedestrians from the active work areas. Access for pedestrians will be maintained at all times. If there is work impacting a crossing or sidewalk, pedestrians will be guided around the work.
