For Immediate Release (February 26, 2021)
The Town of Minocqua is pleased to announce that it has secured the donated funds required to purchase the parking area in downtown Minocqua situated between Flambeau Street and West Park Avenue (Lots 13, 14, 15 & 16 of Block 8). The property, once owned by Saint Patrick Catholic Church, is currently owned by the Campanile Center for the Arts.
The Town of Minocqua would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Goltra Family for its generous donation of $300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Dollars) that will be used to help the Town purchase the property. Their donation represents half of the purchase price. The Town would then borrow for the remainder.
The Goltra family has multi-generational ties here and a great affection for the Town of Minocqua. The economic vitality of the downtown business district has been a long-term priority for them. Both of the Goltra children are Min-Aqua Bats alumni.
The Town’s acquisition of the property will allow it to remain as an open space with over fifty parking spaces available for public parking. Ownership by the Town will ensure continued use by those attending Min-Aqua Bats Water Ski Shows and contribute to the future viability of the Campanile Center for the Arts. Adding this public parking will also benefit the economic health of the downtown business district and provide much needed parking for activities on the Island and major events like 4th of July and Beef-A-Rama.
The purchase of the property will be voted on at a Special Town Meeting to be held on March 11th, at 6:00PM, in the Minocqua Center Board Room. A majority of Town Electors present must approve the purchase. If approved, the Town anticipates closing on the property by the end of March.
