Fourth of July Parade Chair Placement

DAY OF PARADE ONLY

Fourth of July parades are one of those small town traditions that families look forward to. In anticipation, some parade goers set up chairs early along the parade route to “save a spot”. The Town of Minocqua allows early setup of chairs ON THE DAY OF THE PARADE ONLY, and not earlier than 4:00 a.m.

In recent years, chair placement has been creeping earlier and earlier, in some cases one or two days before the parade date. There are a couple of problems with this.

Sidewalks are busy around the Fourth of July holiday, and placement of chairs and other items present obstacles to pedestrians and vehicle passengers whose car door opens into a line of chairs while trying to use street parking. Businesses like restaurants and bars are open into the evening and early morning hours, and chairs along the curb can create problems.

Another reality is that the earlier things are placed, the more chance they have of being tampered with and police don’t need the extra work of investigating damaged or stolen chairs.

So, while the public is more than welcome to place chairs along the parade route, please make sure it’s after 4:00 a.m. on the day of the parade. Thank you!
